Summerhill Academy is consulting on its Admissions Policy

Consultation on the Draft Admissions Policy for Summerhill Academy 2022/23

Admissions authorities are required to consult on their admission arrangements whenever a change to the arrangements are proposed, or if no changes are proposed, every 7 years.  As such the Cabot Learning Federation is consulting on the admissions arrangements for Summerhill Academy, for students joining from September 2022.

The consultation period will run from 26th November 2020 to 21st January 2021.

It is proposed to reduce the Published Admission Number (PAN) at Summerhill Academy from 90 pupils to 60 pupils.

Summerhill Academy currently has a PAN of 90 in year 3. The majority of pupils at Summerhill Academy attended Summerhill Infants (a maintained school) and infant pupils are prioritised in the admissions policy oversubscription criteria. The Infant school have seen falling numbers over the last few years and last winter consulted on and determined a reduction in PAN from 90 to 60.

This had been reflected in numbers arriving at Summerhill Academy over recent years, with the total number of students on roll being reduced each year over the last five years.  The impact on Academy organisation and finances is significant, with less than optimal class sizes. Due to the current year group sizes at Summerhill Infants, the timing of this proposed change will not result in any shortfall in places for those who apply to Summerhill Academy.

No other elements of the Admissions policy and oversubscription criteria are changing.
