Bristol Astronomy Society inspires Year 5 Pupils at Summerhill Academy
Bristol Astronomy Society visited Summerhill Academy to give Year 5 pupils a unique opportunity to translate their classroom learning into a hands-on experience with telescopes.
In a captivating evening event, pupils and their families returned to Summerhill Academy after dark to explore the wonders of the night sky using high-quality telescopes provided by society members. The young astronomers marvelled at the clear images of Jupiter and the moon, as they developed a keen interest in astronomy.
The event not only provided an educational experience but also created a delightful atmosphere, with families enjoying cups of delicious hot chocolate to ward off the evening chill. The combination of scientific discovery and community warmth made for an unforgettable evening under the stars.
Volunteers from Bristol Astronomy Society commended the Year 5 pupils for their exemplary behaviour, expressing their admiration for the pupils’ enthusiasm and engagement with the astronomical observations.
Summerhill teacher Luke Wilson-Reid said: “As well as being a fantastic community event, we strive to create these opportunities for our pupils so that they can aspire to continue gazing up to the stars and see a future in the sciences for themselves.”
