Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds
At Summerhill Academy, we know that children learn and develop better if they are healthy and happy. As such, we promote a ‘Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds’ approach in a range of ways.
We take opportunities every day to promote ‘Active Learning’, during PE lessons, through physical activities in our curriculum, organised sports at play times, and through sports clubs offered by the Forever Sport foundation.
As part of this, we also have an Active Uniform, which allows children to take part in physical activities at any time in a practical and comfortable way.
We also encourage healthy eating and drinking habits. Children are asked to bring water in their bottles every day and to eat a healthy lunch. The food provided by our on-site kitchen is balanced and nutritious. Children bringing their own packed lunch are encouraged to bring healthy foods to give them the energy they need for successful afternoon learning.
Our Year 5 and Year 6 children run a popular break-time Healthy Tuck Shop, selling fruit and other snacks for children across the school to enjoy.
Our Core Values of ‘Kind | Safe | Respectful | Learning‘, regular Thrive sessions and comprehensive Personal, Social, Health and Economics (PSHE) curriculum ensures that all children’s emotional needs are met.
We have a qualified Senior Mental Health Practitioner and Mental Health First Aider on our Senior Leadership Team, as well as a visiting School Mental Health Practitioner, who work with children that need additional support.
If you would like more information on Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds, please contact the school via [email protected] and a member of the team will be in touch.
