Summerhill Academy hosts second annual astronomy evening

Summerhill Academy was thrilled to host its second annual astronomy evening, bringing together pupils, families, and members of the community for an unforgettable night of stargazing.

Attendees had the opportunity to observe Jupiter and the Moon through telescopes while enjoying delicious hot chocolate.

Following the stargazing session, Summerhill staff delivered an engaging talk on how to navigate using the night sky, which proved to be a huge hit with pupils and their families.

Building on the excitement of the evening, school leaders have invited a number of STEM professionals to visit as part of Summerhill’s science week.

This initiative continues the success of last year’s Earthshot-themed science week, inspiring young minds to explore the wonders of science and space.

Luke Wilson-Reid, Leader of Behaviour and Culture at Summerhill Academy, said: “Events like these are a fantastic way to bring learning to life outside the classroom.

“Seeing the enthusiasm from our pupils and their families shows the power of hands-on science experiences in sparking curiosity and excitement for learning.”
