Curriculum Overview
At Summerhill Academy we organise the children’s learning through lines of enquiry designed to engage, immerse and challenge all. The historical content for these lines of enquiry are organised chronologically from ancient civilisations to 1066. Geographically, the children begin by learning about themselves and their local area, and as they progress through the school the area in which learning is based broadens to include the whole world. Although often taught discretely, the other areas of the national curriculum are embedded within these lines of enquiry.
For detailed content please follow the link below to the national curriculum.
If you would like to see any of this in action please contact Mr Barratt to make an appointment.
Phonics scheme
At Summerhill there is a commitment that all children will learn to read. The teaching team have received training from our local English Hub in the use of the phonics scheme that is used by the neighbouring feeder Infant School, ensuring a consistent understanding of the methods used to teach our children to read, and how we can build on these when teaching reading and writing across our curriculum. The validated systematic synthetic phonics scheme that we use is Read Write Inc.
