Children across the country swapped their traditional school uniforms for the costumes of their favourite literary characters as schools celebrated World Book Day, the annual event dedicated to promoting reading and literacy.
From wizards and magical creatures to beloved storybook heroes, classrooms were filled with pupils dressed as characters such as Harry Potter, Matilda and The Gruffalo, highlighting the joy and imagination that books bring to young readers.
The celebration is part of World Book Day, a nationwide initiative designed to encourage children to discover the pleasure of reading and to help foster lifelong literacy skills.
Greatest Hits Radio Spoke to Chris Barrett Principal of Summerhill Academy and pupils at Summerhill Academy about why World Book Day is an important day in the school calendar.
