Pupils enjoy educational trip to Slimbridge

Year 3 pupils from Summerhill Academy had a fantastic educational visit to WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre, one of the UK’s most important wetland conservation sites.
Founded in 1946 by conservationist Sir Peter Scott, the centre is an 800-acre wetland reserve located on the River Severn Estuary in Gloucestershire.
The visit gave pupils the opportunity to learn about wildlife, habitats, and conservation in a hands-on and engaging environment.
During the trip, the children saw an incredible range of animals including ducks, birds, swans, geese, flamingos, newts, voles, harvest mice, frogs and, most excitingly, axolotls.
Despite a little rain, the weather proved ‘perfect for ducks’ and added to the authentic wetland experience.
A spokesperson for the school said: “This was a wonderful opportunity for our pupils to explore nature first-hand and deepen their understanding of wildlife and conservation.
“The children were engaged, enthusiastic, and full of questions throughout the day. Trips like this bring learning to life and create memories that will stay with them for years to come.”
